This Northern Spain and Basque Country road trip brings together 115 places I have saved on my Breakfast Always Wins map, from cider houses and wine cellars to restaurants serving Basque and Spanish cooking. If you are wondering where to eat along this route, the short answer is that there is something for most parts of the day, with lunches and dinners at the heart of it. Most of the places are in San Sebastián (Donostia), with 46, followed by Bilbao with 16.
The route follows the coast and the interior, passing through Deba, Zarautz, Getaria and Mundaka, and reaching as far as Santander and Burgos. Among the places on the map you will find Urberu Sagardotegia, Masta and Bodega Cigaleña, for example, but the itinerary covers far more ground than that small sample.
Google Maps allows a limited number of stops per link, so the route comes in legs. Open one and, when you arrive, the next.
Picked one by one by Rupo, Google Local Guide level 8. No sponsorships.
San Sebastián (Donostia) is the area with the most places on this route, 46 in total. Among them are restaurants serving Basque and Spanish cooking, such as Restaurante Lanperna and Alboka Restaurante.
Bilbao has 16 places on the map, including Restaurante AL Margen and Restaurante Amaren. Many of them serve Basque cooking and suit both lunch and dinner.
Among the pintxos spots on this route are Bar Arrantzale and Xixario, the latter in Orio. They are a good way to get to know the local food.
I do, Rupo, as a Local Guide level 8 who shares what I find as a hobby. Nothing on the map is sponsored: if it's on the map, it's because I liked it.
